The last whole week was Golden Week...the one week holiday where everyone goes out and spend money like crazy. Well, at least not for my part no, I didn't spend money like crazy (although my spending last year did exceed expectations) . This year, I went to cheer for my Brothers in Thomas Cup.
Before I proceed any further, I'd like to thank that guy Thomas for giving away his coffee cup to people who can hit a shuttle cock at each other over an erected net. And same goes to that chick Uber too.
I have to confess that at first, my reason for being at the stadium was because everyone else was there. It was more of a big gathering rather than badminton competition to me. HOWEVER, after being in the stadium for 5 minutes, I found myself cheering my lungs out for Lee Chong Wei, who played the first singles against the Koreans.
Okay, so now I know it's different watching Thomas Cup on TV and seeing it live.
Well, Lee Chong Wei won the match valiantly and we all can't help but feel proud for our dear friend. Then, after few minutes of rest for our throats, we're back at cheering...this time for the first doubles, Koo Kian Kiet and Chan Chong Ming. They played very well but too bad they lost the match.
The second singles featured Wong Choon Han. He was controlling the game with obvious skill and precision...but too bad he sprained his ankle when it was 10-6. The moment he limped, everyone was quiet, staring wide eye...some were even drooling for keeping their mouth open too long. It resulted in a default win for the Koreans as WCH can't continue the game. Sigh....such bad luck at such a timing in such an important game. So, now it's Korea: 2 - Malaysia: 1
It continued on with the second doubles...but most of us were already too frustated and our spirits beaten down by the ankle accident to cheer for the second pair. But Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah saved the day and brought the crowd back with their skills. They won the match and we were all once again high on spirits and cheering like there's no tomorrow for our voice box.
2 - 2 now.....
The third singles were played by Hafiz....the once All-England Champ but an inconsistent chap. But as notorious as his inconsistency was he played flawlessly. Damn, his shots were sooo good, too perfect as a matter of fact, that I actually felt sorry for the Korean and wanted to cheer for the Koreans out of pity. But, fearing Malaysians might murder me with balloon sticks, I stuck to cheering " HAFIZ...hafiz....HAFIZ....hafiz..." He won the match and Malaysia advanced to the Semis!!....WOO HOO!!!!!!!! "Malaysia Boleh.......Malaysia Boleh...Malaysia Boleh..."
Then after Hafiz left the arena, we were then cheering "Nak tiket Free...Nak tiket free..." Haha, our mood were so good at that time that if anyone would have asked for donations we would've donated our wallets.
