Shake your ass for the Earth!!

Up till today, I've gotten sick and tired of the "Environmental friendly" paradigm...

Yes, I know that the Ice Caps is melting and that the Earth's climate is getting weird...Al Gore made that pretty clear in his documentary.

Japan also played a big part in irritating me. With endless campaign of "Use Eco-bags, not plastic bags"....."Use your own chopsticks, not disposables"...."Turn off the lonely light bulb"...all these are no doubt a good move, but too bad, people only embrace these campaigns for so long. Japanese can be quite a hypocrite by doing things so that they "look good" in front of other people....they turn ugly as soon as one turn away.

And compulsory lectures that include "Save the Earth" topics isn't making life any more interesting either....as if scoring an "A" for that particular lecture will help regulate the Earth's climate. That's a worse crap than my blog...

I was thinking...
"To HELL with this save the earth thing...leave me alone and let me live my own selfish life!!!! Fine, I'll recycle and piss in the dark(turn off light bulb in my toilet)....just leave me alone with all these bullshit about 'envirofriendliness'. I have enough friends around, don't need to befriend the Earth. I'm not that lonely."

But then I saw this news report about a night club in Rotterdam, Western Netherlands...
Photobucket
Apparently, a nightclub called Watt, has installed floor panels that generates electricity when people dance on it.

The amount of generated electricity depends on how heavy the person is and the rhythm to which that person is moving. So, yeah..that means the fatter you are, and the more ridiculous your dance moves are, that makes you more earth-friendly. Time to eat more and learn to dance silly!!!

Photobucket
This floor panels can generate enough electricity to power the lights underneath the panels and some more...

To think how much energy could be saved if this technology is implemented in every night clubs...it's a significant amount as night clubs uses 150 times more energy than average household. And if they can install these in train stations in Tokyo where hundreds of thousands of people commute everyday...that's a hell lot more efficient than "Not use plastic bags" campaign.

Never knew that saving the earth could be this much fun. GO DUTCH!!!

Looking forward to see Al Gore dance in night clubs....

"Hey baby, look at how I'm saving the Earth by doing the Chicken Dance..."
"Let me hear you go....Y....M...C....A.....let's all save the earth.....Y...M..C...A..."

The system Japan used is a little different from this. Japan used piezoelectricity, which means electricity is generated based on compression implied on the piezo plates.
This one in Rotterdam uses the old school dynamo principle.

I guess the one using piezo is generating too little power. But, right now, they are trying again on ticket gates. Some light bulb lights up when someone passes through the swing gates...

All Japan ever did was experiments...and never took the next step. This one in Rotterdam however...cool..

they have that platform thing in Tokyo Station.

Yeah. Most inventions in Japan are not brought to the next level. They can earn a lot if they do. That's what you'll learn in MOT, bringing to the next level. :)

MOT?? Malaysians Overseas in Tokyo?? lols..

Btw, it's not from MIT but some students in Netherlands came up with that idea. The club was generous enough to try them out...

>Wi
haha...well, you can date a very fat girl and make her dance.

yes japanese are hypocrites. as much as i think how convenient vending machines are, they shouldn't be that many. 1 vending machince is like a fridge, think how much energy is used when u have 3machines every 50m or so.

but i disagree though, doing away with plastic bags is a good move.

what i really want to see is a bill for alternative energy. in germany, solar panels at houses are wired to the main grid and are sold to power companies at a slightly higher price.

randy, i do so get u bt the lectures though. pretty sick of hearing bt it.

FYI plastics just used 7% of petroleum.

And CO2 is not the most greenhouse gasses. Vapour is.

in Japan, there are too many rules to be followed so it is quite hard to bring something new to the so-called next level like the Maglev train which they already experimented it for 6 or more years !!

anyway i always love environmental idea. One of the interesting idea I found is generating power from human body heat inside an Eki

Yes! The vending machines!! But...seeing how much it rains these days, they are more of a blessing to me..hehe. I even saw one on Mt. Fuji...on Mt. Fuji!! How the hell they get a vending machine to climb Mt. Fuji??

That bill sounds a lot like RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standard)...Japan HAVE that bill too. But while other country sets a goal of at least 10%, Japan sets 1.6%...what a joke.

The plastic thing...it went well for a while, but suddenly, I'm the only one still using an eco-bag while everyone goes back to plastic bags.

To a Japanese, convenience must a religion...

>Ben
and Methane too...and other types gasses that failed to make the hall of fame.

Vapour?....you mean, we now have to hold our breaths every now and then to save the earth? Damn...I'd rather pollute earth than not breathe..

>Stevelee
But I last read from the papers that they are going to commence the construction of railway from Tokyo to Nagoya. Takes 40 minutes to get there now...

Generate power from human body heat?? SHIT!! The Matrix thing is beginning!!! We will all soon be able to dodge bullets...cool...

"I know kung fu"....damn, I wanna say that too.

i know bt the vending machine in my fuji, quite screwed right?

about eco bags, quite a few people are using it in my area. supermarkets are really pushing for it. my local city council has decided tht plastic bags are to be charged 5 yen in supermarkets. money talks even if its 5 yen :P

Screwed? I thought it was amazing...I WAS thirsty that at that time.

Here, they have a collect a stamp when you use your own bag. Get 20 and you get 1oo yen rebate. So, yeah...5 yen per bag.
That worked well for a while...
