The devil I call Hospital...

My dad is experiencing waves of discomfort and pain....but good times too(thank god for that).

During one of his good times, he related to me his experience from when he first collapsed until the moment he got admitted. Like me, he is a person who believe "Anything and everything is worth laughing at"...so I got quite a good time laughing while listening to his "experience". But I was concious of the seriousness of the situation punctuated between laughters...

He first noticed that he got a splitting headache, dizziness and nauseous one Thursday night. Realizing that this isn't normal, he got an ambulance to carry him to the hospital where they did a scan at Mahkota Medical and found a blood clot in his brains. My dad happens to also have an artificial valve and is undergoing warfarin medication. So, his condition is more or less a heart + neuro thing....and not forgetting that he is 68 years of age.

Mahkota Medical, Pantai and Putra refused to admit my dad in because he was "too risky". Damn hospitals....that's why we come to you...We have problems we can't handle!!! But I guess reputation is more important than saving people's lifes...god damn monsters.

So, under the recommendation of a trusted heart doctor, my dad was sent to Prince Court Medical Center...the only hospital willing to take my dad in. This hospital is situated in KL...while the ambulance is on the highway, they refused to turn on the siren as the driver said, "in Melaka it's ok...but in KL, only vehicle carrying a VIP is allowed siren". He was suffering and the damn driver refused to drive with sirens turned on...took him 3 fucking hours to get to KL. And what more, when my dad asked for a blanket, "Encik, kalau mau selimut, ada....tapi kena bayar 50 ringgit...". That damn wanker...

After reaching Prince Court, that damn driver refused to let my dad off!!! "Encik, kena bayar dulu!!". And my dad had a brain hemorrage that time...how the hell is he supposed to answer or pay the man?!! Either he's got shit for brains or that he worked as a taxi driver before.

So, now my dad's in Prince Court...bloody expensive as hell. Was asked for deposit of RM10000 before they agreed to do anything...lucky for my dad he had a friend who helped.

Damn hospitals....is money everything for them?? Don't people's lives mater anymore?? What happened to that Hippocratic oath?!! Damn hypocrites.....

Sigh...I am angry and disappointed at the system but, after reading recent headlines about how old folks are being abandoned at hospitals, guess I can't put all the blame on hospitals, can I? But then again...my dad did not deserve the treatment he got from hospitals in Melaka.

What a damn shame...

Sigh...but at least my dad is in good hands right now. Had to pay hella lot though..

If only you can see how beautifully decorated this hospital is, you won't believe that it's a hospital! With valet parking, lavishly decorated lobby, coffee bean in refreshment areas, toilet almost as big as my room in Japan....and the food...omg the food...prepared by Italian chef, they are one of the best I've tasted.

You see, my dad is not in a hospital, but instead a 5 star hotel with doctors...

Dudes and chics...if any of you are going to work in hospital management, doctors too, never forget that a human's life is more precious than all the money in the world.

Practice medicine, not do business...

In this modern world when we are surrounded with tremendous human race, it is no surprise that sometimes human just get blinded by money. To them, money comes before love.

Maybe one day when the same thing hit their loved ones, they would realise how they should've place love above everything.

Take care and hope that your Dad will recover soon =)

sad but true. this are the practises of private hospitals.

gov hosp, they accept anyone, but the service wont be 5star no more

i guess you get what you pay for. and yea those lavish hospitals would charge more and that's the way the world works. those specialists would've spent millions to get to where they are now so i guess it's natural for them to charge more. and also it's not cheap to perform surgeries (if any) and those special equipments are really expensive and medications as well. public hospital would be the cheaper option but with lousier facilities. oh well, nothing is fair in this life, unless you come from a first world country but then you'd have to pay higher tax for that anyway.

sorry if i sounded rude but yea, that's how medical world works. sorry~~ and all the best. :)

thats why there is a documentary call Sicko
and thats why i cant really respect a "doctor", though sometimes it is the system fault

I guess I got to disagree with you. Just because there is one spoilt grape, you will still eat the good ones and not throw the whole bunch, won't you?

So, stereotyping that every doctor are just thinking about making profit, not saving the patients' life is something which I think a bit shallow, although I do admit the majority of them might be like what you said.

Still, there are those true doctors who put the life of their patients above everything. Same goes to other profession; teacher for example.

Just my two cents worth. Please do not take it personally ;)

Yeah...I agree with what you said. They did spend a lot to learn that kind of skills...but what I am upset about is how they(hospital management) treated my dad.
There was no justification in the way the hospitals in Melaka rejected my dad just because he was "risky".

That's just total bullshit...

>Calvin
Yeah...there are good and kind doctors out there. It's the management that's evil...after all management graduated from a business school, not medicine..

>Everyone
Thanks for your support guys...
Hoping for the best here...

yea i totally agree with you. it's pure bullshit to reject patienst just because they are high risk.. they just dont want to take the risk of tainting their "good" track records. that's stupid...

doing business is OK, all out to make a profit is ok too, but never in the expense of a live or even risking one.

On the other hand, it's also the mentality of the public, you don't choose a hospital to go to because it has a clean track record, dying is a normal life process. A doctor can't cure or save everyone.

emm..ive over cross similar situation like you. Melaka private hospital are like this. They first will see the money rather than curing people. Cannot blame for the expensive bill cos they need living as well. But they shouldnt ask for money first instead should cure them first. There is good doctor out there. Sometimes depends on our luck whether we met one or not. To ns29, don't because of one doctor bad, then the whole doctors in this world are bad. Be particular. ^-^

From Jeremy:

Randy, this doesn't happen in M'sia only, but also here in Japan. I guess you should have heard about hospitals refusing to let patients in just because its too late at night & there's 'insufficient manpower'. Every shit in this world is all about $, nothing more, nothing less!
Anyway, glad your dad seems to be in good hands now. Hope he recovers soon enuf~

Hope your dad get well soon.
Some of my relatives also had the same experience.

My aunty, breast cancer ,was discharged few days b4 she passed away. The moment she discharged,we knew tat she wouldnt live longer.Becoz in those private hospitals ,they don't want patient died at their hospital in order to keep their reputation.GOOD TO LAUGH AT??==>the moment the hospital discharge a patient like this, the family members will hav time to prepare mentally.

The doctor shud fight until last minute to rescue patient

From Andrew Soh Chin Jen:

They too have to make a living. It's just that they are getting more obvious nowadays. The best is to stay healthy or to be rich enough to deal with all these treatments.

Anyway, Michael has a point there. My grandma was kicked out as well for they say that they got nothing else to do for her terminal cancer. Oh well, we don't want to accept the fact but the doctors are more relaxed then we are.

Well, support your other family members. Be the strongest among all. Be the pillar, be the beacon.

hope the wanker driver, black-hearted doc n nurses wil experience the same thing 1 day. I gona be a 'successful engineer' n build a will-collapse-soon hospital for them. this is how those so-called engineers n doctors live in msia right. lousy as usual. damn what should we do to that driver.......
